The linear engine is another type of piezoelectric engine. In this example, by applying an adequate harmonic voltage to the two piezoelectric stacks of the actuation system, we can obtain an elliptical movement of its upper face.

Then, a simply supported plate can be driven in one direction by the elliptic movement when it is in contact with the actuator. It is very important to tune the pressure applied to the plate and the position of the actuator in order to release the contact when the movement of the actuator’s upper face is in the opposite direction of the desired movement.
